Skin Peels

Skin peels involve removing the superficial layers of damaged skin to improve texture, tone, and appearance. It is a popular treatment for many skin conditions such as acne, anti-aging, scarring, pigmentation, and more. The peeling process works by applying a mild acid solution or chemical peel to the area. Depending on the strength of the peel and the type of product used, a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve desired results. When performed correctly by a fully qualified therapist, skin peels can help reveal a brighter, smoother, and more vibrant complexion.

Benefits of Glycolic Skin Peels

At Emma Coates Skin Clinic, we use a 40% glycolic peel. Glycolic acid/peels are a type of alpha hydroxy acid that helps remove the top layer of dead cells from the skin’s surface, revealing a more even-toned, brighter complexion.

Benefits of glycolic acid peels include improved skin texture and tone and reduced pore size. Glycolic skin peels work to exfoliate the skin gently, removing any built-up impurities and revealing the glowing layers beneath. It also helps increase cell turnover, which can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

The epiderma5 skin peel suits all skin types, but a full consultation is given to ensure this is the right treatment for you. As with any professional skin treatment, we recommend using a high-quality skincare regime at home to support your results.

Preparing for a Skin Peel Treatment

Before a skin peel, there are several steps that you should take to ensure the best results. When performed correctly, a skin peel can have amazing benefits to your complexion and overall facial appearance.

Consult a fully qualified therapist: Your therapist can assess your skin type, health history, and lifestyle habits in order to to ensure this is the right treatment for you.

Prepare Your Skin: If you have sensitive skin, avoid using harsh cleansers or exfoliators. Feel free to come to your appointment with or without makeup!

Stop Using Retinoids: Many people use retinoid creams for acne control and anti-aging purposes. However, these products can make your skin more sensitive to a peel, so it’s best to discontinue the use of these creams at least two weeks before the procedure.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Avoiding sun exposure is key when preparing for a skin peel. This can help prevent any additional damage to your skin and reduce the risk of complications due to the peel.

Following these steps can help ensure that you’re well-prepared for a skin peel. After your procedure, it’s important to take proper care of your skin in order to maintain the best results. Follow your therapist’s instructions and use recommended products for optimal results.

Aftercare Advice

When it comes to skin  peels, proper aftercare is essential for achieving desired results. The recommended steps to follow immediately after the treatment session include:

Apply a moisturiser

Moisturizing the skin helps replenish hydration and keep the area protected from environmental irritants.

Apply an SPF

Direct exposure to the sun can cause further irritation to the skin, which is why it’s important to avoid direct sunlight after the skin peel treatment. Make sure to wear a high factor SPF when going outside.

Eat a healthy diet

Eating healthily is important for general skin health, but it’s especially useful for the recovery process of skin peeling. Eating a diet rich in vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, helps promote healthy skin cell turnover.

Use a gentle cleanser

Avoid using harsh cleansers or products.

Avoid high temperatures

Extreme hot or cold temperatures can cause irritation and redness on the skin, so it’s best to avoid saunas, hot tubs and steam rooms during the recovery period.

Avoid excessive exercise

Exercise can cause sweating which, if not removed immediately, can further irritate the skin. Wait at least 48 hours before engaging in any strenuous activities.

Avoid getting other skin treatments too soon

It’s best to wait at least two weeks before getting any other skin treatments. Please consult your therapist if you are in the process or thinking of having any other skin treatments.
